Our Story

Growing up on opposite ends of U.S. Highway 2, Matthew and Keira both developed an interest in space. While Matthew chose hot and humid Florida for college, Keira stayed more local in the wet and drab climate of Seattle. After university, Matthew moved to Baltimore to work on the Hubble Space Telescope, while Keira continued to pursue wet and drab climates in the Netherlands for grad school -- fast-forward five years when he and Keira would meet after she arrived at the same institution to work on the James Webb Space Telescope.

Matthew and Keira spent the next couple of years interacting socially before starting to date in early 2018, knowing quickly that they were perfect for each other. After four years of working on space telescopes, raising two cats, countless walks, and many deep, intellectual conversations about social issues, therapy, and personal growth, they embarked on a new cross-country journey to where they now live in Colorado. Through loss, health scares, and travel they have grown closer and are excited for the next stage of their lives together.

Accommodations

We have secured a hotel block for wedding guests at the Courtyard by Marriott Boulder/Broomfield, conveniently located in Louisville, next to US36. The hotel is within walking distance to RTD bus routes to and from the airport, as well as into Boulder and Denver.

You are welcome to book a hotel room in our block by August 23rd to get the discounted rate (link provided in RSVP form), or stay in one of the five neighboring hotels based on your budget. AirBnB is also an option, however we recommend staying close to what we are calling the "hotel area" as we will be transporting guests to and from the wedding location from the Courtyard by Marriot Boulder/Broomfield (see "Transportation"). Guests not staying at the "hotel area" will be able to park nearby on the day of the ceremony & reception.

Transportation

On the day of the wedding, we will be providing transportation from the hotel area to the ceremony space, from the ceremony space to the reception, and from the reception back to the hotel area. Anyone not staying at the hotel location will need to secure their own transportation to and from the bus pickup/drop off. Please note that parking at the ceremony space is very limited, is shared with the public, and costs $5. We highly discourage our guests from driving their own vehicle to the ceremony. Please reach out to one of us if you have any questions or concerns.

For all other transportation, we recommend the RTD rail/bus system and ride-sharing. For those interested in traveling outside of the Denver/Boulder metro area during this visit, you will likely want to rent a car.

General Info

Ceremony/Reception Attire

We encourage everyone to wear something that they are comfortable in - we don't expect folks to buy new clothes for this event. For those that prefer some guidelines, we are recommending "mountain semi-formal". The ceremony will take place at a mountain amphitheater with gravel and pine needles, so we recommend wearing comfortable shoes. The benches at the Sunrise Amphitheater are rocks attached with coarse concrete. We will be providing covering for the benches, but please keep this in mind when selecting what you will wear.

Confused by "mountain semi-formal"? Makes sense - we made it up! We have created a Pinterest board of what this means to us, but the most important thing is that you are comfortable. We just ask that you please avoid wearing white (including patterns on a white background but excepting white button ups). We love color and would like to encourage everyone to embrace color for the day!

Ceremony/Reception Space Notes
  • There are restrooms a short distance from the amphitheater, but be aware that they are pit toilets and there is no running water, only hand sanitizer.
  • Given the extreme fire risk in Colorado, both Sunrise Amphitheater and Acreage have a no-open-flame policy, so smoking and/or candles are not allowed at either location. Guests are allowed to smoke on the road outside of Acreage.
  • Both Sunrise Amphitheater and Acreage have a strict no-glitter policy. No glitter! Which is good because Matthew despises glitter anyways :)
Weather

Colorado has notoriously unpredictable weather. The average temperatures for early October is a high of 70F and a low of 40F. Given that it's very dry in Colorado, layers are recommended. In the case of inclement weather or fires, we will update guests with any changes to our schedule.

Travel Note

If you haven’t heard, Denver is called the Mile High City - we are at an elevation of one mile above sea level. This means that when you are here, there is less oxygen in the air which makes you more likely to suffer from dehydration and, potentially, altitude sickness. Altitude sickness is no joke, and we don’t want anyone to take any unnecessary trips to the hospital. Our ceremony will be taking place at almost 7000ft (2133m) so here’s what we recommend to help you get ready for the weekend:

  • Take baby aspirin every night for the week leading up the wedding, it will thin your blood which is what the elevation will do, and prepare your body for what to expect.
  • Drink lots of water! Like, way more than you think you need. Please bring a reusable bottle with you -- you will want it!
  • Be careful when drinking alcohol. Yes, we will have an open bar but please be mindful to drink water between every alcoholic beverage.
  • Take your time. Hiking here is great but listen to yourself and what you need, and bring far more water than you expect to need.
  • Oh, and drink water! We will be providing access to drinking water but encourage to bring your water bottle along for the day - it’s a staple of the mountain semi-formal vibe, and it looks cool!

Registry/Gifts

We don't need any more things! Your presence is the best gift you could give us. If you insist on giving a gift, you are welcome to donate towards our honeymoon, or buy us a coffee or our cat some catnip.

Things to do

We will be updating this map with some of our favorite things to do and places to see in the area.
